Our design philosophy is rooted in sustainability and conscious fashion. By up-cycling sarees, we reduce textile waste, while preserving the essence of Indian craftsmanship — from Banarasi silks to Kosa silk weaves, from Chanderi cottons to Patola silks. Every saree has its own story, and by reimagining these timeless fabrics, we aim to continue the narrative, turning them into modern-day statements.
Through this process, we work closely with skilled artisans who employ age-old hand-embroidery techniques, like zardozi, kantha, and chikankari, to add fresh and bold elements to the fabric. The result is a seamless blend of heritage and innovation, where tradition is honoured but never confined.
Our pieces are not just clothing; they are wearable art, crafted with passion, purpose, and a deep respect for India’s diverse cultural legacy. We take pride in every stitch, ensuring that each garment is as unique as the individual who wears it.
These cherished fabrics, rich with history and craftsmanship, are given a new life by transforming them into elevated, everyday statement pieces. By repurposing these exquisite sarees — which would otherwise go to waste — we preserve their legacy and reduce textile waste, offering a more sustainable alternative to fast fashion.
Our designs reflect the balance between the past and present, blending the opulence and intricate artistry of handwoven sarees with a modern sensibility. We believe in creating pieces that not only honor the time-honored techniques of India’s textile artisans but also seamlessly integrate into the dynamic, fast-paced lives of today’s global citizens. Each garment is a harmonious blend of versatility and luxury, making it suitable for both formal occasions and casual wear.
"RECRAFTED" isn’t just a buzzword for us. It’s the guiding principle that drives everything we create at Medhavi. We take the idea of circular fashion seriously, investing in designs that focus on waste reduction, resource efficiency, and creative reuse. We don’t believe in fabric going to landfills; instead, we see potential in every scrap.
Our process begins with repurposing deadstock fabric, old textiles, and discarded materials into beautiful new creations. Every piece we design is meticulously crafted to make the most of every inch of fabric. Whether it’s a vibrant saree transformed into an elegant scarf or a worn piece of cloth turned into a hand-crafted paranda (a traditional Punjabi hair accessory), our goal is to reimagine the fabric's potential.
Medhavi was founded in 2020 with a focus on creating timeless clothing pieces using sustainable fabrics sourced from across India. However, we soon realised that by encouraging our audience to buy more, we were contributing to overproduction. In response, we took a year-long break to address the larger issues of overconsumption and deadstock in the fashion industry. During this time, our founder pursued design studies at NIFT Delhi, with a goal of finding innovative solutions within the supply chain. While visiting her nani's house in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, she stumbled upon a stockpile of deadstock Kosa silk sarees in local emporiums. It was then that the idea struck: vendors across India were grappling with deadstock issues, and sarees—each one unique—represented an ideal solution. The vast variety of sarees found throughout the country presented an opportunity to blend our core values of timeless design, craftsmanship, and sustainability. This discovery marked the beginning of Medhavi’s journey into reimagining the potential of these cherished fabrics.
Medhavi works closely with artisans in Udaipur, empowering them to bring traditional craftsmanship into the modern world. Together, we turn waste fabric into beautiful stationery, hand-embroidered accessories, and unique gifting items that honour both craft and nature. Through this collaboration, we not only reduce waste but also create fair trade opportunities for skilled artisans, ensuring that their work is celebrated and valued.
