Art

Three years ago, I visited a small watercolor exhibition in Ahmedabad. One painting really moved me, and I told the artist about my wish of having an exhibition too. She said, “If you feel it, it will happen.” Since then, I’ve wished to create large textile artworks, this is one of my first.

The idea came in spring 2023, when I saw bougainvillea came all over my city. Their pink shades felt so restorative that I wanted to bring them into my work.

I’ve been exploring appliqué for a while, but instead of the usual floral or geometric designs, I used simple squares. We sourced small patches of gajji silk and stitched them over a base fabric. For the larger part, we placed khadi cotton on top and used reverse appliqué, letting the silk patches show through as texture and pattern.

Feeling extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful team behind this project, bringing the artwork to reality.✨
